Materinity wear is definitely a specialty item that one can keep under the snowsuit clause, given the person plans on being pregnant again. While pregnant, I’d suspend cleaning out the closet until your size has restabilized post-partum.

Leslie – it sounds like you have some really great pieces in your wardrobe. That would motivate me to get back to my pre-baby size so I could wear them again!

I think pregnancy can be an assumed exception – just don’t start the purge until a little while afterward. And I think saving maternity clothes to the side is reasonable as well. It fits under the “snowsuit” clause…right Ruth? I threw in that legal speak just for you

The exception to this rule is when you are pregnant and cannot wear your normal clothing. When a year passes and gestation has occured during that year – the clothing for the season you missed (wearing mumu’s) may still be appropriate the following congruent season.

i.e. I was pregnant during winter. I could not wear my fitted cashmere for fear of it becoming extended and unwearable post partum. Next winter, during my standard wardrobe purge – I held onto said winter clothing still fashionable yet not donned for nearly 1+ years.

Dustin – you shouldn’t have to worry about this and should just get a bigger closet.

I didn’t include this, but for my t-shirts, sweaters, and other folded items, I made a checklist of every item and taped it to the wall. When I wear something, I check it off. Whatever doesn’t have an “X” next to it at year’s end will be given away too.

What a great idea! I desperately need to clean out my drawers/closet. For my folded t-shirts, I think I could use small round stickers (available in bulk rolls or sheets) in place of the yarn bows. Great tip! .-= Dustin´s last blog ..To Reboot or Not to Reboot… =-.
